The construction of the Ali Saifuddien mosque was completed in 1958, with a staggering cost ranging from $7 to $10 million USD, standing impressively at 50 meters (170 feet) tall.
Materials for the mosque were sourced globally, including marble from Italy, granite from Shanghai, crystal chandeliers from England, and carpets from Saudi Arabia.

Visiting the Mosque
Unfortunately, visitors are not allowed inside the mosque, limiting the exploration time to about half an hour. In rare instances, some individuals have been permitted to enter the entryway for a few photos.
If planning to do so, dressing modestly and showing respect is crucial as Brunei is a conservative Muslim nation, and the mosque remains an active place of worship rather than just a tourist spot.
For a mesmerizing sight, returning after dark reveals the entire mosque illuminated, giving off a radiant golden glow from the outside.
Getting to the Mosque
The Ali Saifuddien mosque can be found near the city center of Bandar Seri Begawan, just a short 15-minute drive from the Brunei International Airport (BWN).
If you prefer, you have the option to take a taxi to the mosque, or you can use a local taxi app called Dart, which is a more cost-effective alternative to traditional taxis, similar to an Uber service in Brunei.
Another convenient choice is to book accommodation within walking distance of the mosque, which is what I opted for during my own visit.
